Send the editors something.

The magazine has published 214 writers so far. There is no roster and no invitation list: what gets in is what is good, and the way in is this form.

What the editors look for

Argument, not summary
A piece that takes a position and defends it. We can find summaries anywhere.
Something you actually know
Reported, lived, or studied. The catalogue is full of writers who were in the room.
Urdu or English, either way
Urdu is not a second-class submission here. Half of what we publish is in it.
Between 800 and 2,500 words
Longer is possible if the piece earns it. Shorter usually means it is a note, not an article.

What comes straight back

  • Pieces published elsewhere first.
  • Anything written by a machine and passed off as yours.
  • Political abuse, or writing that treats a group of people as a problem to be solved.

You keep the copyright in what you write. If a piece is accepted, an editor will come back to you about the edit before anything is published.

A working title is fine.

Google Docs, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive. Make sure it is readable by anyone with the link.

A couple of lines. What you write about, and where you are.
